TASK 2: HAVING A JOB WHILE ATTENDING SCHOOL

In some countries, teenagers have jobs while they are still students. Do you think it is a good idea?

The idea of having a job while attending school has become more popular among youngsters recently. From my perspective, I believe that being a working student has both disadvantages and advantages.

In general, a part-time job is very beneficial. Firstly, earnings can help a pupil to deal with the living costs more easily: from accommodation, food, study needs, to travel. Additionally, in some countries, taking a job is vitally necessary to lower the student loan payments. Secondly, college students do not only have a private budget to cover their financial issues; they also can take advantage of part-time jobs to gain skills and valuable experience which are possibly relevant to their fields. For example, working as a retailer will develop many skills – communication, sales, and customer service – which are useful for an accounting and finance major or applying to similar careers. Furthermore, work experience, which is essential to build any resume, will leverage profiles and ensure a better job for postgraduate students in the future.

However, the drawbacks of working part time do exist. First of all, work certainly can encroach upon studying time and breaks in cases in which students do not know how to balance their jobs with studies. Some, therefore, will face difficulties in taking a rest of revising for exams. Besides, lots of teenagers come to school with stress and fatigue from their work which can cause a lack of concentration. As a result, it leads to poor academic performances; young adults are likely less interested in extracurricular activities at their schools or even drop out due to long working hours.

In conclusion, I suppose that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages of having a job during school years. Hence, students should take on a job. (291 words)
